Shelby McDonald’s Love Blossom Farm is the perfect venue for her best friend, Kelly’s, country wedding, and Shelby has been working hard to make everything perfect, in the third installment of the Farmer’s Daughter Mysteries, Bought the Farm. Kelly is excited that the band, that has a nationally famous lead singer from their small town, has agreed to sing at her wedding, but when he is found dead later, it turns out that he wasn’t well-liked and there are numerous suspects. Shelby is an amateur sleuth, but is quite good at it and is fairly nosey, which leads to her solving the case, but that also leads her into some danger to herself and her friends.

Cochran is a good storyteller, and this light, easy-to-read novel is a great way to relax. The story line flows, and there is a good plot with ups and downs and twists that are surprising. The dénouement will be a surprise to most readers, and readers will be happy with the result. The characters are quite likeable, and the author has developed them so that even those who haven’t read the previous novels in the series will be able to relate to them.

The protagonist, Shelby, is a food and lifestyle blogger, and there are a lot of references to food; luckily there are recipes at the end, which is an essential element in any culinary mystery. Other important elements in this book are the lack of graphic language, sex, or violence, which makes it suitable for all ages, and also appealing to most readers.

This is a fun series and fans will want to read all of them in the series.
