Apple Dump Cake Recipe

Apple Dump Cake Recipe
Dump cakes have been around for decades, and they are easy and good. This yummy Apple Dump Cake is typical of those we have been making all these years, but it’s still delicious, and uses fall apples. You can use Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Braeburn, Jonathan, or any other cooking apple you prefer. You can even add a variety of apples to this easy dessert. Red Delicious apples are great for eating, but aren’t as good for baking as other apples, so if possible, eat them and use better baking apples in this dish.

There are only three ingredients in this dessert: apples, cake mix, and butter. The ingredients are layered and baked to make a cobbler/crisp type dessert that is great with real whipped cream or high quality ice cream. Even if you’re short on time, this dessert is doable.

10 Servings

6 cups cooking apples, pared, cored, and cut into chunks
1 15.25 ounce yellow cake Mix
3/4 cup melted butter

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Spray a 8" x 11" or 9" x 13" shallow baking dish with non-stick spray.
  3. Spread the apples evenly over the bottom of the baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the apples.
  5. Drizzle the butter evenly over the cake mix; it's okay if there are a few dry spots, but try to get butter over most of the dry mix.
  6. Bake about 60 minutes, or until bubbly and the top is lightly browned. Remove from the oven and spoon into serving bowls.
