Halloween Body Part Pizza Recipe

Halloween Body Part Pizza Recipe
One of the most popular offerings at my annual Halloween BOO-ffet is the "Body Part" Pizzas. We have an outdoor pizza oven and it cooks these little pizzas in about three minutes. I set out trays of “body parts” for my guests to top pizzas with and have stacks of partially made pizzas sitting on a table next to the oven. Although I usually prepare about 80 of these basic pizzas, the following recipe makes 12, which is a good amount for smaller BOO-ffets.

Incidentally, the toppings don’t include any real body parts, and everything is actually edible. I include everyone’s favorite pizza toppings.

12 Servings

Dough
1 1/2 cups water
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 cups flour
1 tablespoon yeast

1 1/2 cups spaghetti sauce (from a can or jar, or homemade)
3 cups mozzarella cheese

1 1/2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Cornmeal

Toppings: Italian sausage, pepperoni, green olives, black olives, pineapple tidbits, diced ham, sliced mushrooms, chicken chunks, sliced onions, sautéed in olive oil until crisp-tender, red bell peppers, cut into strips, green bell peppers, cut into strips, and sliced fresh tomatoes. You can add anchovies, but I’ve found that nobody ever eats them.

  1. Mix the dough ingredients in the pan of an automatic bread machine; let the cycle run on the dough setting, adding more water if the dough is too stiff and more flour if dough is too soft.
  2. When the cycle is finished, transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface.
  3. Cut the dough into 12 pieces; roll each piece into a ball.
  4. Preheat oven to 250º.
  5. Roll each ball into a 6" circle and prick the circles with a fork.
  6. Sprinkle a baking sheet with cornmeal. Place the circles on the baking sheet (3 fit on a standard baking sheet).
  7. Bake 10 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven and cool.
  9. Spread each circle with 2 tablespoons of the spaghetti sauce; top with 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese. The pizzas can be stacked with parchment in between and frozen.
  10. To bake: Heat a pizza oven to high.
  11. Each guest should top a pizza with toppings and 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese on top.
  12. Slide the pizzas into the oven and let cook about 3 minutes.
