About the BellaOnline Wine Editor
Peter F May

Wine
Peter F May has planted vines in England, picked grapes in South Africa, stomped grapes with his bare feet in Texas, judged wine competitions in Cape Town and London, talked about wine on California TV, and presented tastings in the USA, Canada, South Africa and the UK.

He runs two wine websites. www.winelabels.org displays interesting and amusing wine labels. The Sacramento Bee said it is “a light-hearted frolic through some of the world´s unusual labels.” www.pinotage.org focuses on South Africa’s Pinotage variety which led to the Pinotage Producers Association offering him honorary membership.

In 2006 Peter was commissioned to write Marilyn Merlot and the Naked Grape: Odd Wines from Around the World which showcases funny wine labels and the stories behind them, and in 2009 his second wine book PINOTAGE: Behind the Legends of South Africa’s Own Wine was published.

He thinks wine should be fun and regrets that too often the sheer enjoyment of drinking wine is buried under scores, pontificating, arcane language and the fear of ‘getting it wrong’.

His aim as BellaOnline’s wine editor is to share knowledge and the love of wine and he invites questions and suggestions for subjects to discuss.

Peter finds the best way to enjoy wine is over dinner with friends. He lives in England.
